Obituary for Katherine "Kathy" S. Peirce

Katherine S. ”Kathy” Peirce, age 69, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born April 23, 1947, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Liston and Harriet (Nirk) Bridwell.

Kathy grew up in Ulysses. She worked in the family business and also worked as a cook in hospitals and restaurants. Katherine married Edward L. Peirce on November 24, 1962, in Ulysses. She has lived in Elkhart the last 15 years.

Survivors include two sons, James Peirce of Elkhart, Kansas, Darryl Peirce of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one daughter, Sheila Peirce-Hebberd and husband David of Elkhart, Kansas; one brother, Gary Bridwell of Independence, Kansas; four sisters, Joan Hinkle of Ulysses, Kansas, Darlene Blake of Great Bend, Kansas, Dorothy Anderson of Ulysses, Kansas, and Sherry Harris of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; brothers, Robert (Bob) Bridwell and Carl Bridwell; and sisters, Emily Walsh and Patty Jacobs.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, Kansas, with Reverend Stephen L. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
