Amelia Urteaga, 81 , died Tuesday March 6, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born Paintrock, Texas on May 26, 1936 The daughter of Gonzalo & Epimenia (Sanchez)Hernandez.

She was born and raised in Texas . On November 27, 1949 she married Arturo M. Urteaga in Menard, Texas. In 1965 Amelia and Arturo relocated to Lakin, Kanas and later to Deerfield where they would raise their children. Employment included working in housekeeping at Kearney County Hospital for six years. She was a fabulous cook, credited in making the best tamales and breakfast papas. Her personality was as spicy as the “emergency” chile she carried in her purse. She always had a sweet personality in spite of her addiction to sour lemons. Her hobbies included attending church and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren’s functions.

Survivors include three sons; Jesse Urteaga of Amarillo, Texas; Gilbert (Sherri) Urteaga of Lakin, Kansas; and Robert (Mary) Urteaga of Amarillo Texas; three daughters; Loisa Oropeza of Lakin, Kansas; Katie (Salvador) Limon of Satanta, KS and Gracie (Leo) Munoz of Deerfield; brother, Brother Juan Hernandez of Deerfield, KS; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren & great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings- Rosa Ramon, Nicanor Hernandez, Rafael Hernandez, Eduardo Hernandez, Gonzalo Hernandez, Santos Hernandez, Mauricio Hernandez, nephew-Thomas Sanchez; granddaughter-Veronica Leyva and son-in law-Margarito Oropeza

An evening service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday March 8, 2018 at Lakin Assembly of God Church in Lakin, Kansas. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday March 9, 2018 at Lakin Assembly of God with Pastor Rafael Franco officiating. Burial will follow at Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 pm to 5:00 PM on Thursday March 8, 2018 at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas..
