Obituary for Glen A. Brownlee

Glen A. Brownlee, 93, died Friday, March 2, 2018 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born October 28, 1924 in Sayre, Oklahoma the son of Archie & Ruby (Davis) Brownlee.
Glen grew up and attended schools in the Sayre, Oklahoma area. He then served in the United States Army from August 1944 to June 1946. After the service, he returned to Sayre. On August 22, 1948, he married Mary Lee Waldrip in Elk City, Oklahoma. They moved to a farm near Holcomb, Kansas in 1950 where Glen farmed. They later moved to Deerfield, Kansas in 1959 and have lived there since. After moving to Deerfield, Glen worked as a farm equipment mechanic for Santa Fe Motor Company. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Deerfield United Methodist Church, the American Legion of Garden City, and the VFW of Garden City. Glen was an avid sports fan. He was a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Royals. He umpired baseball games for many years and later became a coach for his children’s sporting events. He also enjoyed playing cards especially pitch with friends and family.
Survivors include two sons Larry (Sue) Brownlee of Garden City, KS and Jimmy (Shirley) Brownlee of Allegan, MI; five daughters Janet (Joe) Kirchner of Pawhuska, OK, Jean (Roger) Sporleder of Wichita, KS, Joyce (Jim) Trettenero of Great Bend, KS, Chris (Richard) Smith of Pierceville, KS, & Tammy Molloy of Deerfield, KS; 13 Grandchildren; and 23 Great-Grandchildren. Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Mary who died on March 8, 2012. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a Great Great-Grandson Gabriel Cedillo; two brothers Harold Brownlee and Dale Brownlee; and a sister, Argy Belle Wilson, who died on the same day as Glen.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Deerfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Olson officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guard. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family suggests memorials given to the Deerfield United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
