Obituary for Becky Jo Thomeczek

Becky Jo Thomeczek, 62, of Garden City, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born October 19, 1955, in Onawa, Iowa to Donald Duane and Shirley Jean Hickmon Fender. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1973.

On September 28, 1974 She married Rick Thomeczek in Garden City, Kansas.

Becky graduated from Garden City Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She worked for many years in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner at St. Catherine Hospital. Thousands of patients’ lives were made better having been touched by this caring, efficient, devoted Registered Nurse. Becky was in a class of her own. Her life was enhanced by her many wonderful crafts and projects, but most importantly by her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved life and her many great friends.

Survivors include her husband, Rick; a daughter Richelle Dawn and husband Timothy Scott Hansen, their children Madeline Rose, Maxwell Joseph, Sarah Grace and Rebekah Jean; son Matthew and wife Jamie, and their two children; and son Matthew Sang Truong; Sister, Gail Hansen and her late husband Frank Hansen; Brother-in-law Smoky Thomeczek and wife Lois; Sister-in-law Allison Bushek and Husband Roy. She loved her nieces and nephews, their spouses and children and many other family members. She was greeted in Heaven by a baby lost before birth and other beloved family members gone before her.

The celebration of Becky’s life will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City and will last throughout eternity. There will be no viewing and a family burial will be held next summer when the flowers are in bloom.

We would love for you to post your special memories of Becky at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Becky Thomeczek “New 3D Mammography Machine” Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh Street, Garden City, KS 67846.
