Obituary for Leo H. Kleysteuber

Leo H. Kleysteuber, 96, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home in Garden City. He was born May 16, 1921 in Carlisle, Illinois the son of Henry & Mary (Wedekemper) Kleysteuber.
Leo moved to Finney County, Kansas with his family when he was a child. He attended high school and graduated from Pierceville High School. Leo served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946. Most of his time in the service was served at Ft. Myers as a gunnery instructor. On February 22, 1944, Leo married Eldora Ardery at her parent’s farm house in Haskell County, Kansas. They lived in the Plymell area from 1947 to 1964. They moved into Garden City in 1964 and have lived in Garden City since. Leo was a lifetime farmer and stockman where he farmed in the Plymell area in southern Finney and Northern Haskell Counties. He enjoyed his work, family, and going to the lake. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, Plymell Community Church; he served as a 4-H leader for many years; a member of the American Legion; the Finney County Historical Society; and as a farmer, was awarded Kansas Young Farmer of the year. He loved to volunteer his time at the coffee shop at Garden Valley Retirement Village.
Survivors include his wife Eldora Kleysteuber of the home; four children Joan (Scott) Davis of Westlake, California, Jean (Dick) Strandmark of Garden City, Kansas, Dean (Jeanne) Kleysteuber of Garden City, Kansas; Son-In-Law Mike Bayer of Encinitas, California; 10 Grandchildren; and 20 Great Grandchildren. Leo is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jill Bayer; two brothers Harold Kleysteuber and J.R. Kleysteuber; and a sister Ruth Lightner.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church, the Finney County Historical Society, or Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo all in care of the funeral home.
