Dorothy M. Peitz, 89, died Friday, June 16, 2017 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born June 25, 1927 in Ingalls, Kansas the daughter of Fred Earl & Anna Mae (Hadley) Ausmus.
Dorothy has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. She attended both Holcomb and Garden City schools. On June 25, 1945, she married Clemens Edward Peitz in Garden City. Dorothy worked most of her life for Dillons Inc. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, music, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include 8 children Dennis R. (Irma) Peitz of Holcomb, KS, Rita M. Herrell of Garden City, KS, Dwayne J. (Becky) Peitz of Garden City, KS, Theresa L. (Mike) Meng of Garden City, KS, Gary L. (Melinda) Peitz of Erie, CO, Rebecca L. (Jeff) Upshaw of Ozawkie, KS, Harold F. Peitz of Garden City, KS, and Carmen G.A. (John) Wagner of Garden City, KS; a Brother Roger (Margie) Ausmus of Winona, KS; a Sister Beth Lamb-Duff of Russell Springs, KS; 29 Grandchildren; 79 Great-Grandchildren; and 9 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Clemens who died on June 24, 1977. She is also preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons James Richard Peitz and Larry Eugene Peitz; 3 brothers Glen Ausmus, Alfred Ausmus, and Richard Ausmus; a sister Norma Straub; and a Granddaughter Jessica Upshaw.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Helms as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Catherine Hospice or to Kansas For Life, both in care of the funeral home.
