Obituary for Mary Ruth Snyder

Mary Ruth Snyder, 95, died Friday, April 21, 2017 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born June 28, 1921 in Chariton County, Missouri the daughter of Roy Hartford & Sina Comora (Cooper) Scott.
Mary Ruth moved with her family to Liberal, Kansas when she was a child. She grew up in Liberal and attended schools there. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1939. On June 29, 1941, Mary Ruth married Jack Russell Snyder in Garden City. They lived in Liberal until 1954, when they moved to Garden City. She has lived in Garden City since. Mary Ruth worked for many years as a postal clerk, and later worked as a cashier at St. Catherine Hospital. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garden City, the Royal Neighbors, RSVP, the Finney County Senior Center, and PTA. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother and for many years, was a volunteer at Fry Eye Associates. Mary Ruth was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters Stephanie (Don) Stephenson of Dodge City, Kansas and Sherry Lynne Cramer of Garden City, Kansas; 8 Grandchildren; and 10 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack who died on November 30, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; two other sons Stephen Lee Snyder and Scott Russell Snyder; an infant daughter; another daughter Carole Sue Grimsley; and 2 brothers Gene Scott and Charles Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with The Rev. Dr. Carolyn Ballinger officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later time at the Liberal Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or to Meals On Wheels both in care of the funeral home.
