Obituary for Harley Gene Parker

Harley “Gene” Parker, 67 passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at his home in Garden City with his family surrounding him. He was born September 13, 1948 in Eads, Colorado the son of Oral & Margit (Olsen) Parker.
On March 20, 1967 he married the love of his life Donna (Watts) Parker. She survives. Other survivors include his son Curt & wife Michelle Parker of St. Joseph, Mo.; four grandchildren Brooke & friend Brandon, Halie, Boston, & Halen; three great grandchildren Issac, Kaze, & Addison; his Mother Margit Parker of Lamar, Co.; two brothers Jack & wife Bonnie Parker of Wichita, Ks. and Norman & wife Joyce Parker of Dighton, Ks.; six sisters Jo Ellen Bullock of Lamar, Co., Pat & Sam Jones of Pueblo, Co., Lora & Rick Bentley of Garden City, Ks., Connie & Sam Peek of Adrain, Mo., Linda Hagins of Carthage, Mo., and Emma & Luke Vocke of Lamar, Co.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father Oral Parker; a brother Paul Parker; and six siblings in his extended family.
His love of trucking was his whole life. He had driven from coast to coast before finally settling in Garden City where he owned and operated BHB Trucking spreading for dairies and feedlots. Gene was quite a jokester and always told his customers that he didn’t stand behind his work. He was never too serious about anything, and he would always say “Life was too short to get very serious.” He worked so hard at anything he did. He loved his work and the people he worked with.
One thing he loved was his family and his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple in his eye. Gene also enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos every Sunday during football season. He was such an avid fan that he bought Big Bubba and would have him on display in his front yard for everyone to see.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Bible Christian Church in Garden City with Pastor Scott Rosen officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family request memorials given to the Harley Gene Parker Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
